Welcome. My name is Micah Caldwell and I am a ceramics artist.
I enjoy creating something out of nothing.
You’ll see various Trompe L’oeil pieces in my gallery. Trompe L’oeil is a fancy French term meaning a design intended to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object.
Trompe L’oeil is something that appears so realistic that you don’t realize it’s not the real thing.
My Trompe L’oeil is like a mirror of reality. It has familiarity in its bizarreness. You look at it again, and it’s like nothing you’ve seen before. Everyone knows what a hammer looks like. Everyone knows what a glove looks like. But there’s something special when you realize that it’s a clay illusion and not the real thing.
To see where my Trompe L’oeil pieces are on display in galleries, browse through my gallery here.
I’m currently attending SIUE for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics. I hope to get my masters in ceramics and teach on a collegiate level.
